Responding to growing worldwide demand for high performance, low emissions aerial work platforms adapted to indoor as well as outdoor tasks, the Genie Z-60/37FE boom lift is a revolutionary new approach adapted to today’s evolving needs for high performance, high efficiency and low emissions. Neither electric nor diesel powered, the Z-60/37FE marks the beginning of a new type of 100 percent hybrid machine. Putting an end to batteries that run low, for rental companies its new hybrid technology provides the opportunity to offer a ‘2-in1’ solution that is both environment-friendly and highly versatile to adapt to an extremely wide range of applications.

“Until the introduction of the new hybrid Genie Z-60/37FE fuel-electric boom lift, there were mainly diesel machines for outdoor applications or electric work platforms for work indoors”, says Jacco de Kluijver, VP Sales & Marketing Terex AWP EMEAR (Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia). “Our new hybrid technology is a breakthrough that offers rental companies the choice of investing and managing their fleets differently.”

Powerful, cost-efficient, environment-friendly 24/7 performance
With the new Genie Z-60/37FE boom lift, operators can work productively both indoors and out. Equipped with high-efficiency three-phase AC electric drive motors, 4 motor controllers, powerful AGM batteries, an energy controller unit, an hydraulic pump, an electric clutch, an AC motor generator and a 18.5kW (24.7 hp) Kubota engine, this new hybrid technology features a combination of interconnected components that offer a totally new power source concept.

The result is an extremely powerful and productive environment-friendly unit that costs less to operate (economising between 15 to 30 euros of fuel a week) and that requires less maintenance than traditional machines. The hybrid Z-60/37FE boom lift combines the power and performance of the Genie brand’s latest 4WD diesel machines, with the quiet, clean efficiency of its electric models.

Two modes of operation: an extensive field of application for high returns on investment
In ‘All-Electric’ mode, the articulating Genie Z-60/37FE boom lift can provide a full shift of operation on a single battery charge. Used in ‘Hybrid’ mode, it provides more than a week of run time with a single tank of diesel to perform extremely efficiently in rough terrain conditions. In hybrid mode, the machine uses its environmentally friendly Stage IIIB/Tier 4F engine-powered generator to maintain the state of charge of the batteries.

Adding to its outdoor and indoor versatility, the Z-60/37FE boom is equipped as standard with foamed-filled rough terrain tyres, or optional foam-filled non-marking rough terrain tyres. As part of its ‘go anywhere’ capabilities, the rugged 4-wheel drive Genie Z-60/37FE offers 45% gradeability, a ground clearance of 33 cm (13 in) and is capable of travelling 25% faster than other typical diesel-powered units. Operators will also appreciate its full-time active oscillating axle that increase wheel contact on irregular terrain, and fully protected AC motors that offer the machine the ability to operate submerged under 91 cm (3 ft) of water.

Always charged and ready to deliver
For extreme usage conditions or after heavy full-electric operation, the hybrid power system can provide a bulk charge while the machine continues to operate within approximately four hours. How? The hybrid system automatically senses if the batteries could benefit from a charge and the generator kicks-in to recharge them. The hybrid system can also provide power directly to the 4-wheel AC drive motors, allowing the system to combine the power of the diesel driven generator and the 48V DC battery pack, maximizing performance when climbing hills and taking on the most rugged terrain.

In addition to the high-precision control of its hydraulic pressure and output that make this machine so cost-efficient to operate, when braking or descending inclines, the Genie Z-60/37FE boom lift uses regenerative braking. This system enables the unit to recover energy that is in turn used to recharge its batteries, making the Genie Z-60/37FE boom lift a true hybrid machine.

Genie hybrid technology: a game-changing concept for fleet owners
On long-term jobs, even when on-site power is not available, the Z-60/37FE boom is sufficiently versatile to handle multiple tasks ranging from work on rough and unprepared ground to indoor applications when reduced noise and emissions levels are necessary. All put together, the Z-60/37FE offers fleet owners the advantages of an extremely productive model combining cleaner performance with reduced cost of maintenance for high rental returns on investment.

All-electric Genie Z-33/18 articulating boom lift
Backed by the experience of its rental customers, Genie designed the Z™-33/18 boom to focus on the emergence of a new end-user profile. This notably addresses the needs of small-scale companies that are often unaccustomed to using mobile work platforms and that neither need nor can afford to hire more than one model for similar indoor and outdoor applications.

Excellent rental returns on investment
Offering excellent rental returns on invested capital (rROIC) at the entry level of the electric Genie articulating boom lift range, the Genie Z-33/18 is a simple, robust electric unit powered by an efficient three-phase AC electric drive system. Requiring less energy and offering longer battery cycles, in addition to the benefits of quiet, zero emissions performance and ease of operation, this machine is able to drive longer distances, needs to be recharged less often and costs less to maintain than units equipped with a DC transmission. Added to its broad field of application, the Genie Z-33/18 boom lift combines all the benefits that rental companies need to boost rental rates and return of investment.

Multi-tasking versatility even on surfaces where low floor pressure is paramount
Providing the ability to perform a full day’s work – both indoors and out – on a single
battery charge, the Genie Z-33/18 lift is significantly lighter than traditional machines in the 12 m (39 ft 4 in) category. Weighing just 3,640 kg (8,025 lb) – which is nearly 1,500 kg (3,306 lb) less than other types of electric-powered unit, this model notably boasts a total occupied floor pressure of only 991 kg/sq m and a low tyre contact pressure of 483 kPa.

As a result, the Z-33/18 boom is an ideal solution for applications on fragile indoor surfaces where reduced floor load is paramount, as well as outside duties – even on wet grass or freshly stabilised ground. Further enhancing its versatility, to adapt to specific needs, the Genie Z-33/18 boom is available with standard solid rubber non-marking or optional multi-surface non-marking tyres, to avoid damaging sensitive outdoor surfaces and turf. Well-suited to an extremely broad field of routine outdoor maintenance and indoor applications, it is ideal for work in industrial and warehouse facilities, airports, shopping centres and theatres where space is tight and floors are fragile. Window cleaning, the installation, replacement and verification of lamps, signage, electricity, sprinklers or security cameras are a few of the many other applications that make this multi-tasking machine such a profitable investment.

According to operators, including those who are newly trained, besides being able to switch between indoor and outdoor duties all day long with a single machine, the fact that this simple, lightweight unit is not designed with a jib makes the Genie Z-33/18 boom much easier and efficient to work with. Added to its short turning radius, zero turntable tail swing, and FastMast™ system that reduces ground to top lifting time at the push of button, operators actually find this machine better suited to many routine tasks.

Bi-energy Genie GS-3369BE scissor lift
The primary vocation of Genie bi-energy (BE) technology is to offer the ability to adapt drive mode and power to the working environment.

The design of Genie bi-energy machines is based on Genie electric units with the addition of a diesel generator that can both recharge and take over from the batteries as required. As a result, operators are able to work in silence in pedestrian precincts or in factories where staff work night shifts. Thanks to their generator, these machines also provide the ability to travel long distances without affecting battery performance, or to start work outside where no power source is available to finish the job indoors. Bi-energy is a form of electric power system that enhances operating time. Simpler and less expensive than hybrid-powered machines, bi-energy is another choice solution for a wide range of applications.

Power on demand, any time any place
The bi-energy Genie GS-3369BE scissor lift offers two modes of operation. Its electric mode is ideal for zero emissions indoor applications. In bi-energy mode, the system activates the on-board generator to keep the batteries charged. Additionally, all models feature an integrated 110V/220V power point, through which electricity is provided by the generator. As a result, the machine does not rely on electricity on the jobsite and operators can power their tools directly from the machine. Equipped as standard with foam-filled all terrain non-marking tyres, this unit is ideal for duties on unprepared ground outdoors and tiled indoor surfaces. Its active front oscillating axle system maintains continuous wheel contact with the ground to offer operators productivity and power. Thanks to their fully sealed electric drive system, these units offer exceptional performance with less maintenance than hydraulic power systems.

Bi-energy mode: a practical solution
Offering the choice of two drive modes, Genie bi-energy units perform productively from start to finish for unmatched rental versatility in a new generation of all terrain machines. Offering working heights from 10 to 14 m, (33 to 46 ft), as well as providing a welcome power source on jobsites where electricity has not been installed, a click of switch is all it takes for operators to change their mode of operation to adapt to the needs of their evolving jobsite environment.
